LIONS IN THE HUNT OF THE DOUBLE OVER THE NOISY NEIGHBOURS

UP NEXT, after a tough home win over Teversal last weekend, RBL plays host to local rivals, Mickleover Reserves at the Royal British Legion. After getting back on track, the Lions will look to continue this form against their visitors in red.

After arresting their drop in form, RBL have to win every remaining match, while hoping that the teams around them slip up in the closing weeks of the season if they are to have any hopes of winning the league.

Mickleover Reserves come to the legion in poor form, having taken just one point in their last four matches as they distance themselves from the points deduction controversy of their first team for allegedly fielding an unregistered player.

RBL’s last match was last Saturday against Teversal at the legion, where three points were essential to get back on track after two midweek matches that saw them take a single point. Jordy Lee bagged the only goal of the game as the Lions took a victory that they so desperately wanted.

Mickleover Reserves’ last match was also last weekend, as a crowd of just thirty people saw them crash to a 3-1 away defeat to Bakewell Town.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The last time the two sides met was on the 18th of November, when RBL made the short trip to the Don Amott Arena. Goals from Josh and Jordy Lee were joined by an own goal for a comfortable 3-0 win for the Lions.

Previous to that match was eight months earlier, on the 18th of March, where RBL hosted Sports Reserves. Sports opened the scoring early, only for RBL to equalise through skipper John Cullen. Sports scored either side of half time with Lee Fell pulling a goal back with twenty five minutes remaining. Sports held out to take the points and gain revenge for losing by the same scoreline the month before.

The two sides then met just two and a half weeks before the last meeting. Goals from Lee Hillier, Lee Fell and Owen Brader gave RBL a 3-2 away victory.

Before that, the two sides last met in the 2021-22 season, at the Royal British Legion as RBL ran out 2-1 winners as Owen Brader and Liam Oliver scored the goals for RBL.

The last fixture at the Don Amott Arena was in January last year. The home side took the points with a 2-1 win of their own. Finley Barker scoring twice for Mickleover, while Josh Wright bagged the only goal for RBL
