PREVIEW | DERBY SINGH BROTHERS (a)
ANOTHER HUGE MATCH AGAINST SINGH BROTHERS
UP NEXT, after following up the cup final win with a hard fought away win last weekend, the Lions face Derby Singh Brothers for a second time in three matches.
RBL will want to maintain their current form and get revenge for an early season defeat. With a six match unbeaten run, three points today will be vital in the chase for top spot, with seven games in hand to make up an eighteen point gap on current league leaders, Pinxton.
Derby Singh Brothers will also come into the fixture with league title hopes in mind, having a huge eleven games in hand on Pinxton and a twenty six points to make up. Having had a slight dip in form over the last six matches, they will be keen to get back on track today and gain revenge of their own for the County Cup penalty loss to RBL just nine days ago.
Mickleover RBL’s last match was an away trip to Linby Colliery on Saturday last weekend. In what was always going to be a tough match, Josh Lee bagged for RBL on twenty six minutes, only for Linby to equalise just before half time. Lee Hillier scored midway through the second half to take all three points for the Lions.
Singh Brothers have played twice since the cup final on the 21st. Their last match was in the league cup, where they lost 2-1 at home to Dinnington Town followed by being not being able to fulfil a fixture away to South Normanton on Thursday due to not having enough players available.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The last time the two sides met was in the Derbyshire FA Divisional Cup South final just nine days ago. Just ten minutes into the game, Singh’s goalkeeper can count himself as very lucky to remain on the field, having cleaned out Lee Hillier, with the RBL striker clean through on goal with no defenders anywhere near him. RBL edged a competitive first half, but were largely in control for the majority of the second half after going in front just five minutes into the half. With nine minutes of time somehow added to the end of the half, Singh Brothers threw everything at RBL and were rewarded with a headed goal on ninety five minutes to take the tie to penalties. RBL took the victory, winning 4-2. Daniel Minto bagged the winning penalty and Jimmy Hyslop in goal seeing the second Singh penalty hit his post and then making a save at 3-2 to set up Minto to score the winner.
The two sides have met once in the league this season, as the Singh Brothers visited the Royal British Legion way back in August, before the weather became a factor in league fixtures. Tyler Johal scored twice as RBL missed a hatful of chances to go down 2-1, with only Ben Rushby finding the back of the net for the Lions.
