PREVIEW | ARNOLD TOWN (a)
RBL TRAVEL TO EAGLE VALLEY FOR THE FIRST OF TWO BACK TO BACK FIXTURES AGAINST ARNOLD TOWN
UP NEXT, as preparations continue for the upcoming County Cup Final, Mickleover RBL’s attention turns to a pair of league matches against Arnold Town as they face the task of chasing down the four teams above them and making the most of their games in hand. With nineteen matches still to be played before the end of the season, the Lions enter a hectic eight week run in.
With seven points from the last nine, RBL head into this fixture in good league form, although their last match was three weeks ago as the weather has seriously impacted proceedings. Their last outing saw the visit of Wirksworth Ivanhoe to the legion for RBL’s sixteenth home fixture of the season to date. Goals from Lee Hillier and Dean Oliver came in response to a brace from Lewis Higton for Wirksworth as the teams shared the points at 2-2.
Arnold Town come into this fixture with one win in their last five matches as they sit in their customary league position of lower mid table. Like RBL, their last match was three weeks ago, as they gave a spirited display against league big spenders, South Normanton. Daniel Chambers bagged twice as the Eagles narrowly went down 3-2 to their visitors.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The last time the two sides met was in May 2023, as the Lions charged towards their runners up spot in the league for the 2022-23 season. A straightforward 3-1 victory was settled with goals from Mike Ryan, Lee Fell and Cole Hassall.
The away fixture at Eagle Valley last season was in February, with RBL coming home with a 2-0 victory. Jordy Lee and Sam Vickers on the scoresheet on that occasion.
In the 2021-22 season, at the Royal British Legion, RBL ran out easy 4-0 winners. Two goals each for Lewis Durow and Owen Brader did the damage as the Lions finished the season strongly.
The earlier fixture at Eagle Valley was in October 2021. Another easy win for RBL saw a Sam Vickers hat trick, a brace from Lee Hillier and a Liam Oliver goal as the Lions ran away 6-1 winners
