PREVIEW | MELBOURNE DYNAMO (h)
RBL RETURN HOME TO FACE DYNAMO
This weekend, Mickleover RBL return to the legion, where they host Melbourne Dynamo on what is a fantastic surface following an intense period of careful restoration by groundsman Eddie Gray.
After a much improved, and dominant victory over Nottingham on Tuesday evening at Rolls Royce Leisure, confidence is restored as the Lions look for back to back wins in five days as they face a much sterner opposition in the visiting Melbourne Dynamo team.
Melbourne will also approach the match in confident manner, having picked up three points in their first match of the season, on Wednesday night, away at Holbrook St Michaels. Last seasons’ Macron Store Nottingham Division One West champions bring with them plenty of pedigree as they look to make the step up to the Premier Division South.
On Tuesday evening, RBL responded brilliantly to an opening day defeat, as they ran riot against Nottingham FC. A brace from Luke Crosby and Mason Booth-Davis saw RBL 3-0 up inside half an hour. Nottingham responded with a goal before Josh Lee bagged twice to take the teams into half time with RBL 5-1 up. Anyone who remembers the 8-9 defeat to Nottingham at the end of last season would know not to count any chickens at this point. Two more goals in the second half from Cole Hassell and Lee Hillier completed the rout for a 7-1 victory
Melbourne Dynamo played the following night, as they travelled to face Holbrook St Michaels. A close encounter saw Melbourne make it five league wins in a row, following on from last season and a fourth clean sheet from those five matches. A single goal from Tyler Withers was enough to take the points and give Melbourne an opening day victory.
Having an eye on being in the title hunt, both sides will be up for this encounter on what looks a fine pitch at the legion in what promises to be a warm weekend for football.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
The two sides last met in September of last year, when they were drawn in the first round of the Buckingham Insurance League Challenge Cup. RBL made the trip to Melbourne, where, after a tough match, they progressed into round two following a single goal from Liam Oliver. RBL then went all the way and won the cup last season.
