Tonight, the first team travels to Blidworth Miners Welfare, where they face Teversal in the semi-final of the Buckingham Insurance League Challenge Cup.

After the stunning penalties victory in the Derbyshire FA Junior Cup South last night for the reserves, the firsts will want to get to a final of their own and beat Teversal to give themselves a chance of winning the trophy that they were runners up in last season.

Having already faced each other twice this season, both teams will be familiar with how the other plays, with RBL having the advantage of winning both matches in the league this season.

On Saturday, RBL welcomed Mansfield Hosiery Mills to the Royal British Legion. Having previously dominated in their last few meetings, RBL could have been forgiven if they thought it was going to be an easy match. It was anything but that, as a late goal from Josh Wright was the only difference between the two teams.

Teversal come into this match on the back of a disappointing run of results, having taken just a single point from their last four league matches, with their only win in five coming in the cup quarter final against Dinnington Town. Their last match saw them go to Derby Singh Brothers, who have lost just once in their last eight matches. A goal from Cameron Pinnick was their only answer in a 3-1 defeat to Singh Brothers.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The two sides last met just five weeks ago, as RBL travelled to face Teversal under the lights in a midweek encounter. Jake Davis scored in the first half, which saw the teams go into half time at 1-1. Jordy Lee bagged the winner within the first two minutes of the second half for the game to finish 2-1 to RBL.

The match earlier in the season also ended 2-1 at the Legion. Jordy Lee scored twice to give RBL the win.

ONTO THIS EVENING

RBL will be wanting to at least match last season’s performance in the cup. To do this, they have to beat a Teversal side who will be looking at the cup as their opportunity to raise what has been an average season.

With both matches this season so far being closely fought encounters, we can expect for more of the same later.
