PREVIEW | WOODHOUSE COLTS (h)

BACK TO CUP ACTION FOR THE LIONS AT THE LEGION

Today sees RBL welcome Woodhouse Colts from Division One East to the legion in the second round of the Buckingham Insurance League Challenge Cup, as they continue their quest to go one better than last season’s disappointment in the final.

In their last match, RBL made it back to back wins with cleans sheets as they beat bottom of the league, Ashland Rovers 2-0 at the legion. Goals from Sam Vickers and Josh Wright were enough to take the victory over a side who finished the match with ten men, as Jake Batty saw red for the visitors.

The match against Woodhouse Colts will give the lads a break from the league as they are beginning to find the consistency needed to mount a serious challenge on all fronts this season. Having kept two clean sheets in a row, confidence will be high as they take to the field this afternoon. Manager, Garry Smith and his team have tightened things up at the back, while still having the firepower going forward to be a real threat this season.

The team, however will be wary of today's opposition, as, although a division lower, Woodhouse Colts represent a potent threat themselves as they currently sit second in their division, having lost only once and have two games in hand on top spot. With seven wins in a row, Woodhouse will come to the legion with confidence sky high.

Last weekend was a free week for Woodhouse, which could mean one of two things. Either, they will have made the most of a well deserved rest after their exploits so far this season, or they could lose the momentum they’ve built up so well to this point. RBL will very much be hoping for the latter.

In their last match, Woodhouse continued their 100% away record as they swept aside Clipstone Reserves 3-0 at the Miners welfare in Clipstone. Goals from Kyle Chadburn, Charlie Simpkin and an own goal gave Woodhouse a routine victory.

Both sides will see this fixture as an opportunity to progress in the cup, with both now on good runs of form. Today will hopefully give us a great match ahead.
