MONTHLY SUMMARY - NOVEMBER 2022

RBL Admin30 Nov 2022 - 22:46

Fireworks in a month that began with Guy Fawkes, and ended with a lot of rain, and the small matter of the world cup.

With the season now fully underway, all of our teams had an idea of how their seasons were going to pan out. With just eleven defeats across the fourteen teams, November will be remembered as a largely successful, but rain affected month, with a great deal of fixtures hit in the final two weekends as the month drew to a close.

Bonfire night weekend saw five wins from our teams on the pitch, and was rounded off with a fantastic fireworks display at the legion in the evening on Sunday the 6th.

The following weekend saw another eleven matches, with only three ending in defeat. The final fortnight of the month lost a lot of matches to the weather, following days of torrential rain. In total, sixteen matches were played over the two weekends, with ten of those matches being for the Lions.

Read on for a team by team breakdown

First team

The first team went into the month with four straight wins behind them. Back to back 2-1 home victories came over Teversal and Linby Colliery Welfare, with Jordan Lee bagging three times, and 16 year old Millen Sheena making his senior debut. A shock away defeat to Cromford & Wirksworth Town ended the month, as their scheduled home match on the 26th was postponed due to waterlogging. Despite a number of impressive performances over the month, England manager, Gareth Southgate seemingly exposed gaping holes in his scouting network, as club captain, John Cullen and club spice boy Alfie Holland (after being caught on camera with some outrageous skills) were missing from the call-ups.

Reserves

The reserves, like the first team, managed three matches in November. With a win, draw and loss in October, the aim for November would surely be to gain some consistency. They managed just that, as they came away from November with the same set of results as the previous month. Three away matches saw a dominant 3-0 victory over Markeaton FC was followed up with a draw at Heanor Reserves and a 2-1 defeat at Castle Donington.

Under 11’s

The under 11’s managed to fulfil fixtures on all four Saturdays of the month and tasted victory over Belvedere at the end of the month.

Under 16's

The under 16’s Lions went into November on a four match unbeaten run, with some good scalps taken along the way. Victories over Next Generation and draws with Coventry City ITC and WBA ITC extended the unbeaten run to a fantastic eight matches. The only blip would be a number of injuries picked up over the course of the matches.

Under 17's

The under 17’s made it four clean sheets in a row with very convincing wins over Leek Town and Old Wulfrunians to end the month having played just twice. A huge improvement on October’s return, where they won on just one occasion.

Under 8's

The under 8’s were in action every weekend in November. They scored a fantastic total of eighteen goals in their four matches, which included a cup victory on penalties after a 5-5 draw at the end of the match.

Under 9’s

The under 9’s continued their 100% record for the season as they played three matches, scoring eleven goals and conceding just three for the month, taking their total for the season so far to 61 goals scored.

Under 11's

The under 11’s Sunday team played a single match in November, a spirited draw against their neighbours from Mickleover Sports with goalkeeper Aleksa Matic claiming man of the match

Under 12's

The under 12’s went into November having dropped just two points so far this season. A 2-1 home win against Long Eaton United extended that run, before a 3-0 away defeat the following week ended the run, before getting back on track with a stunning 4-0 win at Aspire to round the month off.

Under 14’s Tigers

The under 14’s played the first three Sundays of the month before the weather got involved. Two defeats were made up for with a brilliant 4-0 win over Mickleover Sports Lyon from just down the road.

Under 15's Jaguars

The under 15’s had a torrid month, with just two matches played. A 4-4 draw with Clay Cross Town was followed by a “home” match in Nottingham against Basford United at the end of the month. The away side ran away with the victory.

Under 16's Golds

The under 16’s Golds continued in their journey in the top division in the Derby City League with a tough defeat against Mickleover Sports Celta, before taking all three points in a 7-6 victory over Doveridge. A spirited performance ended the month with a defeat to the current league leaders, Belper Town Blinders.

Under 16's Panthers

The under 16’s Panthers managed to play two matches in November. A 0-0 home draw with Belvedere Park Red saw them lose their 100% record. Following this, a 9-0 cup win over Hilton Harriers meant they ended the month with two clean sheets, their undefeated record intact and passage into the next round of the cup, with Freddy Brearley bagging a hat trick against his schoolmates.

Under 17 Lions

The under 17’s continued their fantastic, high scoring run of form, winning all of their matches since losing the first of the season. A single match was played in November, an 8-0 home cup win over Stretton Eagles. Highlights of the match can be found here
